This pattern is given exactly according to the author's pattern. I must admit that I have slightly changed this pattern for my doll. And I also have some comments to the original pattern. It should be voiced in case you work exactly according to the original.
1. It is assumed that both parts are sewn with open holes, but the number of the stitches in the last rounds does not match. Therefore, I recommend equalizing them - either 18 or 24.
2. In the 3rd round of the body, the pattern is slightly distorted. Perhaps it does not matter, but I would make 3-5 rounds like this:
3. [1 sc, 1 inc], 12 sc, [1 sc, 1 inc]*3, 12 sc, [1 sc, 1 inc]*2 (42)
4. [2 sc, 1 inc], 12 sc, [2 sc, 1 inc]*3, 12 sc, [2 sc, 1 inc]*2 (48)
5. [3 sc, 1 inc], 12 sc, [3 sc, 1 inc]*3, 12 sc, [3 sc, 1 inc]*2 (54)
My version
Body
I did not want to sew the legs to the body. I decided to crochet the body as a continuation of the legs. So I changed the pattern like that.
Put the legs together and mark the joining loops as shown in the photo.
round 1. Crochet these two loops together, make 17 sc along the left leg, make 1 sc into the joining stitch on the right leg, make 17 sc around (36 st altogether)
2. 2 inc, 15 sc, 3 inc, 15 sc, 1 inc (42)
3. [6 sc, 1 inc] around (48)
4. [7 sc, 1 inc] around (54)
5. sc around (54)
Make all following rounds according the original pattern
Also I have added the last round
20. [2 sc, 1 dec] around (18)
Head
When I have crocheted three-quarters of the head, I understood two things: first, I do not like that the head is much larger than the body; secondly, I do not have enough yarn for the head.
Then I decided to reduce the size of the head. It turned out like this:
work until the 17th round according to the original pattern
17-26 (10). sc around (60)
27. [3 sc, 1 dec] ard (48)
28. [2 sc, 1 dec] ard (36)
29. [4 sc, 1 dec] ard (30)
30. [3 sc, 1 dec] ard (24)
31. [2 sc, 1 dec] ard (18)
Now you can sew together the body and the head, sew the hands to the body. It turns out like that.
In the next 4th part about making the nose and the ears.
